The Pandora Dress

photography lighting

Finally the seventh dress, the Pandora. This little pop rocket of a dress is my personal favourite for its electric personality and illicit thoughts that filled my head whilst designing her.

A single scenario repeated in my imagination for which this dress would be worn .........................

It's a cold, crisp, dark night in New York city and Pandora is entering the premier of her latest film. The flash bulbs are cracking all over the red carpet, paps are shouting her name 'Hey Pandora, look over here for me!', fans are squealing with desperate joy flapping their autograph books and Pandora's porcelain face glows as her eyes sparkle in the light.

The most famous starlet of our time is bundled into the theatre where she takes a deep breath and flicks her brunette hair back into perfected place.

The gentleman on her right takes her over sized platinum coat and checks it in, the one on her left goes to announce her anticipated arrival. For just a moment Pandora stands alone in the foyer awaiting the overwhelming fuss that will be made of her in just two minutes time.

A tap on the shoulder startles her, 'he's waiting in the alley' a tall figure whispers closely.

Her heart pounding and butterflies whirling everywhere Pandora turns on her sparkling heel and move swiftly towards the fire exit. Busting the door open the cold air freshly hits her skin as steam billows from the subway grates. The single light coming from the doorway catches the sequins of her dress shimmering as she opens the heavy black door of the car. In a split second she is free, gone. Leaving just a sheer glimpse of an image.

The Pandora is a coquette of a dress. The sweetheart of the neckline that molds over the smooth bust, the wrapping of the silk chiffon tightly around the waist and the dense sequins that shimmer over the bodice as it moves. The plunging back of the dress reveals all, with long drapes hemmed in indulgent marabou feathers fit for the finest courtesan.
Cut in an hourglass highlighting the curves and falling to the calf I wanted this dress to be both as sexual and ladylike as possible.

Sylvia in Green

Underneath the hand draped neckline is a corseted bodice for support and a little hugging

trimmed with a removable scarlett red velvet bow

the back has a draped sash from the shoulders embellished with vintage brooches

all ready and waiting in it's box to be worn

Our 'Sylvia was Swept Away' in our favourite emerald green silk. It looks like quite a showstopper and is guaranteed to compliment your curves perfectly with it's integrated, boned bodice and cinched waist. We love it and the red red velvet bow we made to trim it with, just like a present!

Polkadot Bridesmaids

I have just received a gorgeous peek at the polka dot bridesmaids made for a wonderful London town wedding. They look spectacular, very Joan and very, very gorgeous just as I wanted.

The photo was taken by Emma Case and you can view more of her work here on her blog. Full of beautiful photographs and she even made a video for the bride as an added treat.

Polkadot Wiggle Dress Number Two

The second of these polka dot bridesmaids dresses (the first a voluptuous 'Mad Men' inspired lady) in a crisp cotton with a fine silk bias trim and piping detail. We cut this bias trim ourselves to achieve the finer edging and matched the metal covered buttons that embellish the cuffs and hem of the skirt.
We've started focusing more on the internals of our dresses with boned waists and stays to cinch in the waist.
Apparently the stays (a grosgrain ribbon that fastens inside the waist and often found in vintage couture dresses) help with posture too!

This dress was a custom order, for more details please contact us via email.

Lady Sings The Blues

This was another fantastic commission which has just been completed.
The brief: A 50's inspired, Etta James, blues wiggle dress in a striking blue, designed to make a lady's curves pop!
This dress has to be one of my favourites, when I packed it away in it's tissue paper those pleats felt as though it had been made 60 years ago and I really hope it makes it's lovely owner feel wonderful. I think you call it a labour of love when your fingertips have so many holes in,  Anyone who knows of a thimble that works please let me know.

Black Lace Dress

This was a fantastic custom order, the kind I could do all day long! A lovely creative customer wanting something gorgeously vintage and in keeping with our style.

The dress was made in a soft black lace (nothing scratchy for the skin) and is designed with black silk slip underneath complete with boning and a fitted waist.

The dress just screams demure 1940's glamour and I am very pleased with this one.  (if you haven't already guessed!)

And the inside just for good measure. As this was unlined lace it was important to keep the inside light and tidy so we bound the main waist seams and french seamed the rest.
