2016 Bridal Collection - 1947 Tulle Ballgown

1947 was arguably the most important year in fashion when Christian Dior introduced the New Look. This collection was all about moving on from wartime rationing and misery and all about indulgent feminine fantasy. Hundred of metres of fabric were used, skirts were full, lines dramatic. It's my favourite time in fashion and for this collection deserves to be a decade in itself.

I love the layers and fullness of the skirts. Below is a sketch for the 1947 gown to be made in a sheer tulle with ribbon striping. With  all the volume I want it to be light and free on the body, almost like a case over the naked form, fitting just at the waist. There will be no lining.
