Laura's Stunning Chicago Wedding - Photos by Jennifer Van Elk

photographer Jennifer Van Elk

Congratulations to our bride Laura on her wedding on New Years Eve at the Union Station, Indianapolis. The second of our new years eve brides!

I have completely fallen in love with the photographs taken by Jennifer Van Elk, they are just so stunning in quality I can't find the words. You'll have to just look.

Laura was studying at Bristol University when we met her for a first consultation here at the studio. As an American only here for a short time we managed to work out a schedule that fitted perfectly with her graduation ceremony and her parents visit.
Laura knew exactly what she wanted, her take on our Lupita dress in an apple white handwoven silk, with a thigh high split and a 1950s couture cut. A stole of faux ermine was made as a cover up for the cold Indy January and elbow length vintage white kid gloves finished Laura's look with elegance.

I love Laura's look on the day, glossy old hollywood waves, a bare neckline and perfect peep toes. Thank you to Laura and Jennifer for the incredible images.

For a bespoke bridal appointment at our studio, book in online or send us an email at alexandra@alexandra-king.com.

Tara's Wedding Dress and Custom Bridesmaids Dresses

Tara in her bespoke blue velvet coat - Jake Morley Photography

Lace Bridal Top - Jake Morley Photography

The first of our New Years Eve brides Tara has kindly shared her wedding photos with us. The wedding was held at one of our favourite venues, Coombe Lodge Blagdon. Congratulations Tara!
Photography by Jake Morley Photography.

Tara came to us initially for a bespoke gown and bridesmaids dresses. However managed to find a perfect off the peg gown in the Clifton bridal shop that formed the base of her look for the day. We added to the dress with a champagne lace button back top that featured a large silk sash that ran the length of Taras gown.

Colours of winter berries were chosen for the silk bridesmaids dress which were designed with fitted sleeve bodices and full midi skirts. These looked gorgeous all together for New Year.

Tara then opted for a blue velvet coat to be designed to wear over her gown for outdoor wear and a blue silk going away dress.

Town and Country Bride Kim at Penard House, Somerset

Bespoke Wedding Dress for Kim

bespoke wedding dress
Laura Power Photography

Back in September Kim and Jon got married in Wells, Somerset. It was a beautiful day with a little rain but that didn't dampen the spirit of their gorgeous wedding.

Anna worked with Kim on her bespoke wedding dress to get the design and fabrics just how Kim wanted for the big day. Something soft, feminine and simply beautiful with great style.

Anna sourced a fine beaded lace from Berwick Street, Soho on a shopping trip with Kim and the full floaty skirt was made in a complimenting matte silk chiffon. The dress had a 1930s feel to it with a open cut back and beaded straps making a perfect Summer wedding design. The skirt just skimmed the floor allowing for a lot of dancing into the late night.

Kim opted for a soft hair style with plait detail that was in keeping with her style and a bespoke head piece was made to match the dress.

The bridesmaids dresses were made to measure a in a blue Liberty London print with a 1950s full skirted style. To finish blue suede shoes by Rachel Simpson were styled to match. Anna also made all 12 of hand sewn ties for the ushers and added some lovely finishing touches with centre pieces for the tables, a garter for Kim and a ring pouch all in Kim's chosen blue Liberty print. .

The wedding was held at Wells Town Hall, a low key venue that again came in to consideration when designing the dress. Demure was very much the order of the day. Then the wedding couple squeezed into the cutest blue mini and made their way to Penard House for the reception

This is a fantastic venue ideal for wedding parties with a grand, but not ostentatious house and converted stable block beautifully finished with a bar.

The couple then danced late into the evening to a two piece band ......  Congratulations Kim and Jon!

I love receiving wedding photos especially when they include a beautiful bride wearing one of my dresses!

This little blue silk dress trimmed in silver sequins with a full deep hemmed tulle skirt looks absolutely stunning on bride Georgie in Melbourne. Congratulations to the happy couple! x

Lindsey and Rich's Amazing DIY Wedding

Lindsey came to me last year looking for her dream wedding dress, I'll share more details on the wedding dress later. I have to say Lindsey has been one of my all time most enthusiastic and engaging brides to work with, always with a smile and wanting to get into everything at the studio. Mainly the rhinestones!

So after a few months of making, gatherings of the bridal party at the studio, a lot of cake and tea, we had a collection of five fabulous maids in pinks and blues, a divine purple mother of the bride dress, a hen party and honeymoon dress and finally the wedding dress.

Lindsey made a huge amount of gorgeous things for her wedding which you will be able to see in the photos. The crockery is Lindsey's signature piece, then Rich and Lindsey together made the bunting complete with sequins and Lindsey even made here own beaded belt. I was amazed that after only a few basic tips from me, these incredible beaded belts turned up for the next fitting looking absolutely stunning and far better than mine!

It looks like the days was a wonderful success and not only a big THANK YOU to Lindsey for working with me on her outfits but CONGRATULATIONS to such a brilliantly inspiring pair of people. x

Here are the contributors of the day.

Hair - Adria Williams, my usual hairdresser from Hush Hairdressing in Bristol (she fulfilled our 'messy 50's brief beautifully!)
Car - Karma Kars Cotswold http://www.karmakarscotswold.co.uk/
Venue - St Helen's Church, Clifford Chambers & King's Hotel, Chipping Campden http://www.kingscampden.co.uk/

Lindsey wore blue glitter shoes from Carvela and Rich's blue suit was from Reiss. We made the spotty silk tie and pocket square.

Lindsey then changed to silver glitter Anna shoes by Kurt Geiger (one of the most perfect shoe designs, wish they still sold this style!)

                                                               Inside the beautiful Karma Car!

Lindsey and Rich made the bunting together, this is most definitely the best bunting I've seem with a mix of bright prints and hand sewn sequin letters.

The hand covered buttons on the dress each had a rhinestone to match the belt Lindsey made to match.

Leandra modeling the second phase of her bridesmaids dress, her full skirt was removable.

Lindsey as the bride sppears to have served her guests with a pinny on! Also loving Beth's massive heart earrings that match the pink of her bridesmaids dress.
